The Magpies of Saskatoon

As I traversed the snow-covered streets of Saskatoon, Canada, enveloped in a sea of white, I couldn’t shake off the overwhelming sense of emptiness that seemed to accompany me. The once-exciting sight of snowfall now felt devoid of joy, serving as a stark backdrop to the turmoil brewing within. Yet, amidst the silence of the snowy landscape, an unexpected symphony of chirps shattered the stillness, offering a glimmer of hope in the darkness.

Discovering Resilience in Nature

In the midst of my inner turmoil, the resilient magpies soaring through the frigid -15°C weather caught my attention. Despite the harsh conditions, these small birds continued to chirp merrily, seemingly unfazed by the snow that blanketed the city. Their resilience and apparent indifference to the challenges of the environment left me pondering the true essence of strength and acceptance.

Life’s Mysteries and Hope

As I listened to the cheerful melodies of the magpies, a flood of questions surged within me which could be summed up as –

“Oh, birds of Saskatoon, so free in your song,
On snowy branches you rest, where you belong.
The weather changes, but you take it in stride,
At dawn or dusk, in your calmness, I confide.

You don’t seem to worry about times ahead,
Brave little birds, is it courage or dread?
Have you embraced life with all its twists and turns?
In your simple joy, there’s a wisdom one learns.

How do you stay joyful when I’m feeling low,
Untroubled by past or future’s unknown flow?
Even when snow blankets the world in white,
You sing with a heart so free and light.

I long for your cheer, your unburdened days,
To live in the moment, in so many ways.
Oh, to be like you, without any dismay,
Finding peace and happiness in every way.

Your chirping is clear, it’s a sound that I crave,
Oh, birds of Saskatoon, so bold and so brave.
I wish I could feel as light as your tune,
And watch the night sky, just to gaze at the moon.”

The magpies of Saskatoon unknowingly became my guides, leading me towards a renewed sense of hope and resilience. Their cheerful chirps echoed through the snowy streets, offering comfort and solace in the midst of adversity.

As we navigate life’s challenges, let us draw strength from such unwavering spirits, knowing that with courage and determination, we can overcome any obstacle that comes our way. A huge shoutout to everyone who has a similar feeling – “You are NOT alone in this”. We will get through!

Chalo bye…
